Commodore George Dewey


Occupation: Served in the US Navy. Fought in the Civil War for the Union aboard the Saratoga, Mississippi, and several other ships. Was commissioned Admiral of the Navy in 1899

Reasons of Interest in Topic: Served in the Navy, he led the fleet to Manila. They took out the Spanish Fleet. He got a medal named after him for the battle at Manila, got him promoted to Admiral of the Navy, he benefitted greatly from the war.
